Position Description

Job Summary

This position primarily exists to manage the Process Engineering/Development team and the Quality Team for Ceramic and Refractory products in Worcester, MA, This position is required to manage capital and facilitate process improvement projects, growth projects, external relationships including customers, vendors, trade groups, and suppliers, and to support the production team with process engineering and quality support as required.  The role is expected to take proactive ownership of equipment and facilities by utilizing team members to execute experiments, processes, and product investigations. The incumbent also leads the Innovation, Development, and Growth Pillar of WCM within the plant and manages the development lab.

 

  • Establish projects using advanced processing knowledge and WCM principles to maintain, develop, and improve manufacturing and measurement processes. Manage project timelines and budget to successful completion of objectives.
  • Lead on-site process engineering team for Worcester, MA. Review and evaluate employee performance. Develop performance improvement.
  • Deploy group resources to provide close support for site manufacturing engineering staff when appropriate.
  • Supports sales team and represents the Process Engineering and Quality functions to outside customers and to global PCR team
  • Acts as Innovation, Development, and Growth (IDG) Pillar Lead. Works with the pillar & R&D to introduce new products.  Acts as Project Manager on cross-functional teams.  Active participant in Quality Pillar as well.
  • Organization and management of personnel, projects and equipment in Development lab.
  • Other duties assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelors in Ceramic or Materials Engineering, Quality Engineering, Chemistry or Equivalent required
  • Masters in Ceramic Engineering or equivalent preferred
  • 5-7 Years’ experience with ceramic mixing, casting, compaction, drying, and firing processes and equipment is required
  • 5-7 Years experience with SPC and familiarity with 5S, Kaizen, and Lean Manufacturing strongly preferred
  • Knowledge of ceramic materials including their physical and chemical properties
  • Practical experience with the analysis, manufacturing, and inspection of ceramic products
  • Ability to scope, evaluate, install, and operate industrial equipment standard
  • Demonstrated ability to be a technical leader with their scope of work
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills and the ability to work effectively across all levels of the organization and with customers
  • Problem solver and a critical thinker
