The Business Development Manager is responsible to identify and develop new business opportunities for sustainable growth of the Composites Solutions group with a clear emphasis on improving profitability and differentiated offering in fast growing niche markets often in new applications and new to the Business unit.

The Business Development Manager is also required to Support sales team and marketing efforts and explore potentials for new and higher value solutions to customers and prospects by taking a more concentrated and coordinated approach on specific applications/markets/customers related to the films and fabrics business

Their objective is to drive the identification and development of business opportunities and the profitable management of projects from inception to completion. The incumbent will be responsible for execution of specific Marketing programs, Strategic Plans, and action plans and their implementation.


Required Qualifications

Identify and develop new business opportunities involving wide spectrum of activities including but not limited to:

  • Opportunity Management, Profitability, Portfolio Management, Co-Development opportunities and strategic partnerships;
  • Testing and Proving the market and gaining justification for new developments
  • Digital strategies, platform development and customer centricity projects;
  • Commercial relationships; Negotiation; Risk management;
  • Post-delivery risk; Project planning; Team building; and Project progression.
  • Potential technical solutions based on knowledge of SG core competencies and capabilities, requiring strong technical background in areas of interest

Define and Develop Project Development and Marketing Plans – Strategic in nature:

  • Creates development plans for new long strategic opportunities identified for Composite Solutions
  • Creates marketing programs (for specific market segments) to support growth and profitability
  • Directs the development of long range plans for accountable business segments
  • Drive global brand communication effort (press release, webinars, deployment packages, etc.)

Customer engagement with existing / potential customers / business development opportunities

  • In conjunction with key customers, identify portfolio gaps and build business case for new product development, acquisition opportunities and lead or actively sponsor these.
  • Represent the global business development community as market voice within SBU R&D for accountable business segments

Team and Organizational development

  • Coach, mentor and develop sales and marketing professionals within the organization
  • Create and monitor individual development plans focused on closing competency gaps
  • Promote and drive a culture of inclusion, engagement and involvement with at largely remote population

Additional Description

  • Bachelor’s Degree preferably in engineering or related science field is required.
  • Master's degree in Marketing, business or a related technical field is preferred or a combination of education and work experience in lieu of.
  • 5 years in commercial functions  - Successful experience in performing in a Global Sales & Marketing organization
  • Leadership & Strategy  - Must have experience of working in a diverse multi-cultural team in a direct leadership role of a team & a matrix organization
  • Communication - Excellent communication skills via phone, email and in person.

  • Acts as an in-house coach to transfer the most complex know-how ensures potential is delivered faster and accelerates progress.
