Position Description

Job Summary

As a member of the Solar leadership team, provide strategic input to the business in areas related to product, manufacturing, and supply chain, while leading the team responsible for all R&D, Engineering, and Validation activities for CertainTeed’s Solar business.  Team leadership includes budgeting and budget management; talent and performance management; and organizational design and workforce planning. 

Responsibilities of the team are led by the incumbent include project/program management and stage gate; certifications, regulatory compliance, and product stewardship; sustaining engineering; new product development; intellectual property strategy and execution; process development and improvement; manufacturing strategy and roll-out; vendor/supplier evaluation; quality procedures and testing; and pre-sales and post-sales technical support.

ROLE SUMMARY

Define and implement the strategy of the R&D department in alignment with the strategy of the Business Unit.  Participate in the identification and execution and assignment of projects designed to meet the business strategy. Manages the entire project portfolio and insure on-time execution, well documented and within budget to meet business and customer objectives. Manages and documents projects effectively. Includes the generation of project timelines/plans, technical memos, research reports, and presentations to internal customers, project teams, and/or management.

  • Develop and control the R&D budget including the management and execution of CAPEX.
  • Organizational planning, hiring, and performance management
  • Participate in developing research projects and program budgets, tracking progress against objectives, and implementing changes in the task's thrust and priority, including reviewing and evaluating project results and the direction and preparation of progress reports.
  • Leadership and Stakeholder reporting/presentations
  • Regulatory Compliance and Certifications
  • Stage-Gate, Warranty, and Product Stewardship
  • Complete and organize documentation and document management, including, Product Requirements, Invention Disclosures, Stage Gate documentation, Warranty and Testing documentation, Certification and Regulatory documentation, Product Stewardship and Compliance documentation, Manufacturing Specifications and CTQs, Manufacturing Variances & Resolutions, Change Management, Product Version Control.

 

COMPETENCIES:

  • Must possess a body of technical work commensurate with their years of experience including but not limited to demonstration of familiarity with statistical tools, data analysis, and drawing conclusions based on a collection of basic data and interpretation, IP, Patents, and technical documents.

Required Qualifications

  • BS Degree with a minimum of 18+ years’ experience, or MS with 13+ years of experience, or Ph.D. with 9+ years in Mechanical, Electrical, Material Science, or similar technical field plus demonstrated technical judgment/accomplishments
  • 5-7 years of R&D Leadership and team management, including managing cross-functional technical teams
