Position Description

Job Summary

The Manufacturing Engineering intern will act in a cross-departmental function to support EHS, maintenance, engineering, WCM, quality, and process goals/targets at the  Manufacturing Plant. Core projects and goals will be focused on safety, yield, cost (cycle time/rate and availability), energy/cost reduction, and improvement of maintenance standards. Problem solving approach will utilize World Class Manufacturing toolset.  This role will be fun, hands on, and based heavily on the shop floor.  The Manufacturing Engineer will focus on taking real waste out of the process to drive productivity and yield improvements every day.

  • Accountable for maintaining a safe work environment.  Must recognize unsafe conditions and practices and make corrections to prevent injuries and property loss.
  • Will understand and participate in World Class Manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Lead the development and implementation of plant training programs, using WCM Compentency Gap Matrix to identify key skills, cross-training needs, and opportunities to improve program effectiveness
  • Develop project plans, resource requirements, and cost/benefit analysis as required.  Own and drive key projects to closure in alignment with direction from plant leadership team
  • Partner with EHS Manager, Quality Leader, WCM Leader, and Supervisors to implement continuous improvement actions related to safety, quality, and delivery
  • Perform time studies and material flow analysis to develop standard work and identify optimal line balance
  • Identify kaizen opportunities to eliminate waste and reduce cycle time or improve throughput
  • Will learn to influence across functions to achieve safety, quality, and cost targets
  • Learn to engage employees to gain buy-in for change management

Required Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s of Science degree program in Engineering and a sophmore, junior or senior in studies.
  • Strong analytical thinking and analysis skills
  • Ability to interact positively and professionally across diverse groups of employees and vendors, with the ability to influence without direct authority
  • Demonstrates good organizational skills
  • Fluent with MS Office Suite to include PowerPoint, Excel, Word
  • Strong technical writing skills – preparing training documentation, work instructions, One Point Lessons, and process documentation
  • Ability to work with hands in order to demonstrate tasks or functions for new equipment

Additional Description

Work is in a manufacturing environment, with a focus on shop floor based projects.  Requires wearing personal protection equipment as mandated in areas accessed. Requires walking and may have some access limitations such as stairs, confined areas and tough terrain. Physically active to travel through the plant requringing bending, stooping, and climbing.
