JOB SUMMARY:

Our Formulator is responsible for preparing chemical pigment slurries and fillers (formulations/coatings) to support three production areas (QX Casting, Steel Casting, and Coating), handles incoming materials, uses proper methods to set up formulation mixes, and shop floor control reporting. Performs and operates job functions with safety, quality and efficiency in mind and in accordance with specific process sheets and operational parameters.  Must have excellent attention to detail, is responsible for overall quality of material/product being produced.

REQUIREMENTS:

Demonstrates safety awareness and safe work practices

Follows work orders, process sheets, procedures, and /or other instructional documentation

  • Use SG inventory system to identify the correct raw and/or recycled chemical(s) to be used (QAD, FIFO methodology and etc.)
  • Use tight-fitting, air-purifying respirator when weighing and dispensing raw chemical ingredients, as required
  • Weigh and dispense raw and/or recycled chemical ingredients, according to recipe specifications, into mixers, totes, etc.
  • Mix raw and/or recycled chemicals, according to recipe and/or procedure/process, to create pigment slurries and fillers
  • Operate various mixing machines (Kady and Ball Mills)
  • Check formulation using various calibrated and non-calibrated tools
  • Properly complete required paperwork/forms; labels; and log books
  • Input shop floor control data into computer system (QAD)

Complete visual inspections per quality control requirements

Properly complete a Discrepant Material Report (DMR), label and log book

Research and resolve cycle count errors

Any other related duties, goals and/or activities as assigned

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • 1 year working in manufacturing environment (preferred)
  • Strong comprehension, communication reading, writing, mathematical, and computer skills
  • Accurately read various recipes, charts and measurement tools (Hegman gage, viscometer, etc.)
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Accurately read a tape measure within 1/16 of an inch
  • Basic problem solving skills
  • Ability to obtain forklift operator license
  • Ability to pass respirator (tight fitting) fit-test
  • Basic understanding of equipment operation to include, electrical, pneumatic and mechanical components operating simultaneously
  • Dependable
  • Willing and able to work independently and in cross functional groups

Work Environment:

  • Production environment with regular exposure to noise and dust
  • May be exposed to cold and/or hot temperatures at times

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to climb a ladder/stairs periodically during shift and be comfortable working at heights
  • Must be able to work with hands at working height frequently and periodically above head
  • Ability to push/pull/lift a minimum of 50 pounds repeatedly
  • Ability to stand/walk, particularly for sustained periods of time
  • Ability to work in confined spaces as needed
  • Ability to work overtime as needed
  • Ability to follow company policies and procedures, treat others with dignity and respect, and open-minded
  • Strong sense of accountability, integrity, teamwork, pride and ownership in your work
