Job Summary

CertainTeed is the North American brand for Saint-Gobain, a global leader in building technologies and solutions.  We are looking for a highly entrepreneurial and experienced technical leader to oversee new product development and early industrialization of completely novel, system-based solutions to improve building sustainability and construction productivity.  Come help us build the future by leading a team focused on the optimization and industrialization of complex, multi-material assemblies at the forefront of the building and construction industry.

The role oversees Stages 3-5+ of an iterative New Product Development & Introduction process:  starting at a customer-validated proof-of-concept; through to the implementation of pilot-scale manufacturing; and finally taking learnings from early industrialization to improve and relaunch new generations of solutions.  Your team will include scientists, engineers, project managers, and pilot-scale production staff.  The environment is fast-paced and entrepreneurial, with trust, empowerment, and collaboration as our three core values. 

Most importantly, the aim of this role is to quickly bring to market innovative solutions that enable more sustainable and productive housing creation.  With the building industry accounting for 40% of global carbon emissions and the recognized annual deficient of over 3 million homes in the United States alone, our team needs a passionate manager able to lead rapid, iterative innovation and industrialization to make the impact desperately needed locally and at a global scale.

ROLE SUMMARY

Responsibilities include:

Leadership of the following Pre-Launch activities:

• Stage 3-5+ New Product Development
• Program Management & Stage Gate Processes
• Pilot-Scale Process Development & Implementation

Leadership of the following Post-Launch activities:

• Applications Engineering
• Early Customer Technical Support

Oversight of Pilot Manufacturing & Early Scale-up

COMPETENCIES:

• Must be able to quickly learn and assess new technical areas as necessary.
• Written and oral communication skills across a broad range of levels and functions, including formal presentations of results to various audiences.
• Must possess a body of technical work and/or track record of product/process development commensurate with their years of experience (IP, Patents, Technical documents) and managing well-functioning teams.

Required Qualifications

• BS Degree with a minimum of 18+ years’ experience, or MS with 13+ years of experience, or Ph.D. with 9+ years in related technical discipline plus demonstrated technical judgment/accomplishments
• 5-7+ years of R&D or Engineering leadership and team management
• PMP (Project Management Professional) Certification, preferred
• Lean Certification (construction preferred)
• Six Sigma Certification, preferred
