The Group Leader will manage the Coating & Lamination Process Engineering Team for Saint-Gobain Solar Gard located in San Diego, CA. Will manage the design, implementation and scale up of coated and laminated films. Will support the Operations Department in the production process and interfacing with the Quality, Sales and Marketing Departments to ensure the highest quality products are produced in the safest and most efficient manner possible. Will support New Product Development efforts within Coating and Lamination, ensuring that they are delivered on time and within budget.
The Group Leader oversees the design and implementation of manufacturing processes and equipment for roll-to-roll web processing using wet coating and lamination. They are responsible for operational excellence via efficient plant design and function. Ensures continuous improvement in process, cost, quality and production utilizing WCM lean and Six Sigma tools. Manages all process-engineering projects and resolves engineering/processing issues within the Coating and Lamination scope.
Essential Responsibilities:
• Leadership of the Coating and Lamination Technology Team. Personnel coaching and creation of working processes to maximize the success of the team.
• Improvement Project Identification, scoping and execution, both personal and for group. Ability to identify opportunities for cost reduction and increased efficiency and seeking and implementing innovative methods to optimize process throughput and reduce costs. Project tracking and reporting to management team, including NPD projects.
• Ability to effectively define problems and through data analysis propose workable solutions in both the short/long term to minimize defects, waste and failure modes. Works with the site team and operators to establish stable and repeatable manufacturing processes. Solves real time problems in processing. Drives Internal Qualifications (IQ), Operational Qualifications (OQ), and Process Qualification (PQ) requirements.
• Capital Project planning, research, justification, execution and reporting utilizing the annual budget. Manages departmental expenses to budget.
• Training and development of the Coating and Lamination Team and site-wide knowledge and capabilities. • Support company goals and objectives, policies and procedures.
• Highly competent in web processing and thin film liquid coating and laminating processes. •Other duties as assigned.
• Bachelor’s Degree in In Engineering (Chemical, Mechanical, Material Science) or other related disciplines. Master’s degree preferred.
• 5+ years of work experience/knowledge and utilization of Lean Manufacturing/Six Sigma & World Class Manufacturing methodology.
• Experience in a coating and lamination environment (web processing/web coating) preferred.
• Prior background in project management. • Demonstrated track-record of leading and performing hands on engineering; Required.
• Previous Capital Projects experience; Required.
. • Ability to effectively handle multiple activities simultaneously and successfully function in a cross functional manufacturing environment.
• Excellent communication, leadership and organizational skills.
Ability to build a technically strong and responsible team.
• Ability to develop and give presentations to various levels throughout the organization. • Demonstrated leadership skills.
• Ability to travel as needed.
Certain states require pay information be provided in job postings. Saint-Gobain aims to deliver a comprehensive Total Rewards package to support our employees’ wellbeing and help improve daily life for themselves and their families. We believe in the importance of pay transparency in what we offer prospective candidates and provide the national pay range for this position which is $105,200 to $168,300 per year, however, the base pay offered may vary depending on geographic region, internal equity, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors.
In addition to base salary, this position is eligible for an annual bonus. The targeted bonus amount is 15% of base salary based on company and individual performance measures. The Total Target Cash range (base pay and annual bonus) for this position, is $120,980 to $193,545. Bonus payments are part of variable compensation and by nature can vary based on company and individual performance and is not a guarantee.
