Job Summary
Responsible for 11 locations including made to order plants and a distribution center. $40M in annual freight spend. Managing relations with 20+ carriers both LTL and parcel. Working with carriers to manage transportation for $330M in raw material and finished goods purchases along with managing outbound transportation for $750M in sales to customer.
• Tactically focused on managing the entire order to cash workflow for outbound shipments as well as managing inbound flow to plants for raw materials and finished goods
• Create, plan and route loads utilizing the TMS system
• Ensure coverage for all loads ahead of relevant milestones
• Track execution of loads ahead of relevant milestones and manage exceptions
• Identify any risks to successful delivery
• Offer solutions or recommendations on known risks
• Keep all relevant stakeholders informed with status updates
• Follow up with carriers to provide required information (ie. arrival, departure times, POD’s etc.)
• Review assessorial charge requests for approval or denial along with creating initiatives to reduce assessorial costs
• Manage requests from CS/Sales/ Purchasing & Procurement
• Manage carrier claims from initiation to settlement and track recovery to the business
• Assist with InTune audit and freight pay review as needed
• Assist ACH duty reconciliation as needed
• Develop relationships as a trusted advisor at all levels of the organization
Required Qualifications
60% Inbound and Outbound load planning, maintain and updating carrier capacities, network optimization, including round trip and continuous move planning
15% Carrier Communication – dispatch, service failures, route planning and performance tracking
10% Service Failure Resolution – customer and plant problem resolution
10% Working with various personnel throughout the business unit to manage additional shipment needs (marketing, engineering, plant storeroom, etc…)
5% Claims processing, invoice approval through third party freight payment processor, spot assigns, and other transportation related administrative duties
Additional Description
PROBLEM-SOLVING
• Work within company Transportation Management System to assign carriers to outbound loads
• Within the established carrier network, selects modes and carriers based upon service needs and lowest cost decision making as well as using TMS optimization tool
• Identifies and creates routing opportunities to control transportation costs through the Transportation Management System
• Works with Transportation Manager and/or Transportation Supervisor to track and analyze service performance, including on time pick-up, along with equipment availability to ensure optimal service
• Work with third-party to ensure carrier claims are filed when appropriate
• Trouble shoots service related issues, resolving internal and external customer problems efficiently and in the most cost effective manner.
KNOWLEDGE
• Bachelor’s Degree preferred - with additional training and education in logistics, prior internship or experience in transportation a plus.
• Non-degree applicants must have 2-3 years of progressive experience in an administrative, logistics, and/or customer service function
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Customer facing and/ or supplier management experience highly preferred
• Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to influence others without role power
• Proficient with MS Office suite, particularly Outlook, Excel, and Access.
• Experience with SAP
• Ability to read and interpret general industry and market documentation
• Must have keen attention to detail and coordination aptitude
• Ability to work well in cross-functional team environment including customer service, logistics, and plant/shipping personnel
• Strong problem resolution and critical thinking abilities a must
