Job Summary

Saint-Gobain Composite Solutions is looking for a collaborative, talented, and energetic research engineer to join our team in Saint-Gobain Research North America based in Northborough, Massachusetts. Saint-Gobain is a world leader in developing innovative, high-performance solutions through our exceptional experience in materials science and processing. We are searching for a hands-on Group Leader to manage a team of 6 researchers, with both direct and indirect reports, who investigate, research, and develop new technologies that strengthen our offerings in the Composite Solutions business. Composite Solutions’ product portfolio includes coated fabrics, laminates, extruded films and coated films for high added value markets.

ROLE SUMMARY

As a Group Leader, the candidate will be expected to effectively lead cross functional teams by managing others to execute and deliver project objectives. The candidate will be expected to lead R&D projects in the areas of product development and application technology, collaborate effectively with R&D colleagues, product managers, product engineers, application engineers, external partners and external customers, discuss, create and execute project plans, design and conduct experiments, analyze data, and present findings in written and oral formats. Further the candidate will be responsible for developing direct reports and others within the group.

The main job duties will include:

  • Daily management of R&D group consisting of research engineers and technicians.
  • Effective leadership of cross functional teams by managing others to execute and deliver project objectives.
  • Working with the product managers to fully understand the customer’s application and technology
  • Utilizes broad technical background and experience to develop and/or improve products, materials, chemistry, processes, and performance and/or reduce costs within a major product area.
  • Stays aware of new technology applications and competitive uses of 
  • Manages multiple projects simultaneously, on time, well documented and within budget to meet business and customer objectives.
  • Reinforces the company EHS policies in all aspects of the job.
  • Actively seeks for synergies within the group
  • Demonstrates open and collaborative approach in all areas of responsibility.
  • Seeks out others to enhance and streamline development and decision making.
  • Proposes support and expertise from the team to the other business functions engaged in business projects.
  • Submits proposals and makes decisions on IP in agreement with upper management and business

  • Must possess a body of technical work commensurate with years of experience including but not limited to: demonstration of familiarity with data analysis, drawing conclusions based on a collection of basic data and interpretation, and technical documents and/or patents.

Required Qualifications

  • BS Degree with a minimum of 15+ years’ experience, or MS with 10+ years of experience, or PhD with 6+ years in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Material Science, Polymer Science, and Plastics Engineering or other related discipline, plus demonstrated technical judgment/accomplishments.
