What’s the Job?

We are looking for driven, talented, and energetic early career level engineer to join our architectural team in key product development programs. As a Product Development Engineer II, the candidate will research and develop new technologies to improve products within our business. Phases of development include pilot, scale-up, and implementation of R&D processes into manufacturing. The candidate will take project objectives and transform them into actionable tasks including research of technologies, design and execution of experimentation, analysis of results, and generation of IP and technical reports.

This position will have a focus on research and development of suspended ceiling assemblies. Under the direction of the principal scientist, the candidate will also design products, run experiments, produce lab scale samples, operate prototyping equipment, and analyze the experimental outcomes. In addition to designing experiments for the candidate's primary projects, the candidate may be expected to conduct experiments to support projects led by others.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ability to work in an R&D environment, building relationships and establishing support to execute projects in a cross-functional environment.
  • Manages or supports various new product development projects simultaneously, on time, well documented and within budget to meet business and customer objectives.
  • Requires minimal assistance and guidance on administrative and technical aspects of role.
  • Identify cost savings opportunities for the business.
  • Identifies opportunities that could impact sustainability with innovative solutions and works with R&D, operations, and technical teams to develop and deploy.
  • Works with Saint-Gobain North American Research & Development Center (SGR-NA) and other R&D resources within Saint-Gobain (SG).
  • Defines material properties and critical to quality attributes.
  • Provides technical support and assistance for trials, commissioning and troubleshooting of new technology.
  • Supports the Stage Gate process for individual projects including leading the technical components of Gate reviews and ensuring all related documentation is complete.
  • Develops and encourages innovation and Intellectual Property (IP) development and fosters IP development through the patent process with legal support.
  • Continuously evaluates workplace for safety concerns and ensures behavioral safety initiatives are performed to goal levels.

Required Qualifications

What do you bring?

  • BS Degree with a minimum of 3+ years' experience, or entry level with MS degree in Mechanical Engineering or Material Science or other related disciplines.
  • Must be able to demonstrate familiarity with 3D CAD Tools (Solidworks a plus), prototyping methods, 3D Printing, data analysis, and drawing conclusions based on a collection of basic data and interpretation.
  • Demonstrated good knowledge in Safety.
  • Comfortable giving a technical presentation to a varied audience.
  • Develop and demonstrate understanding of company policies and corporate structure.
  • Travel required up to 25%
  • 3+ years of hands on experience with CAD modeling, prototyping, manufacturing processes and equipment, and scale-up activities in an industrial or research setting
