Position Description

Job Summary

Accountability Objective:

Achieve sales growth in Midwest, Mid-Atlantic and Canadian territory for existing as well as new markets by applying expert selling skills and a technical mastery of products, processes, and applications.

Principal End Results

  1. Increase sales volume for assigned products and markets assuring consistency with the businesses marketing strategies, goals, and targets.
  2. Maintain and improve working relationship with all existing customers and distributors ensuring business maintenance and profitable growth.
  3. Identify and develop customers for existing products to profitably increase sales to meet and exceed business growth targets.
  4. Utilize technical expertise in products, processes, and applications to accelerate qualification of existing and new products at potential customers.
  5. Demonstrate ability of utilizing customer service and/or engineering knowledge in the course of solving customer problems related to the application of products.
  6. Manage & demonstrate progress on specified projects of strategic importance to the growth of the business.
  7. Identify, analyze, and provide timely and accurate market information to the Sales Manager, such as pricing dynamics, competitive situation, and market evolution.
  8. Maintain excellent up-to-date record system for accounts, products, and distributors to have continuity of strategy on file.

Nature and Scope:

The Regional Sales Manager will be responsible for a significant number of key accounts within the territory, some accounts may have a global presence and such necessitate communication and travels accordingly. He/she will sell a variety of products related to the businesses into highly technical markets/applications. These products are sold through various market channels including distributors & directly to end users. The end users include but are not limited to industries that utilize our products for aerospace, automotive, medical device, power generation, agrichemicals and paints/coatings.  In the process of selling products, the incumbent will be in contact with people at various management levels at the customer site. These individuals include engineers, superintendents, purchasing agents, and top management. Usually, more than one of these individuals is involved in the selling process and buying decision, requiring the incumbent to establish and develop multiple relationships.

The incumbent is expected to work closely with Product Managers, Customer Service & Manufacturing personnel to ensure proper coordination of supply & demand of quality products to ensure customer satisfaction.  The incumbent will also work closely with the Sales Manager implementing strategically important projects that ensure continuing profitable growth of the business.  Potential projects include but are not limited to price adjustments, new product implementation, and contractual supply negotiations. 

The incumbent is expected to provide timely updates, both verbal & written, regarding markets that include but not limited to information such as competitor activity & market dynamics.  Sales and market forecasts are expected to be completed in a timely fashion for strategic plans and budget purposes.

 


Required Qualifications

Background/Skills:

A Bachelor’s degree, with a preference in Engineering and/or Business, plus a minimum of 3-5 years sales and/or product management experience is preferred.  An MBA is desirable.  Knowledge or experience in abrasive finishing and/or abrasive technologies is a plus.  

Must have the ability to travel up to 50% of the time, which may include international travel.
