Position Description

Job Summary

PRIMARY OBJECTIVE:

Responsible to lead preventative maintenance and repair tasks on industrial electrical and electronic equipment and support production as needed.  Keep supervisor informed of issues related to safety, delays, and waste which could have negative results or cause quality issues and/or customer complaints.  Must have strong leadership skills and possess the ability to lead a team and assign individuals to specific job tasks.

 

NATURE & SCOPE OF POSITION:

  • Be the expert for troubleshooting and repairing systems and equipment and train the electrical shop personnel
  • Must be thoroughly familiar with all areas of the production line, plant, and system processes
  • Must be self-motivated to ensure continuous learning and always finding productive work to accomplish
  • Possess ability to multi-task in fast-paced environment and deal with changing environments in high-stress situations
  • Responsible for enforcing safety practices and policies of the organization
  • Investigate and report unsafe conditions and accidents to immediate supervisor and the facility safety coordinator
  • Maintain a safe work environment while compliant with job specifications, keep work areas clean and orderly
  • Possess the ability to motivate employees within the crews to perform to the best of their abilities and
  • encourages all members of the maintenance crews to stay focused and maintain their area’s housekeeping
  • Capable of perceiving problems that may develop and communicate such issues to their individual Supervisor
  • Be able to progressively train other employees appropriate for their tasks
  • Inspect equipment and components for damage and wear utilizing gauges, measuring devices and experience to determine any necessary actions
  • Respond to unexpected after hour call outs for repair and support
  • Maintain 5-S standards and housekeeping
  • Participate in continuous improvement projects and teams
  • Follow all safety training and documents for this site
  • Report any and all quality related issues to the Supervisor
  • Meet department’s key objectives
  • Must understand and follow job specific SOP’s

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Perform daily activities needed to support and comply with requirements surrounding plant maintenance activities   
  • Must be able to read and understand blueprints and schematics, and wire diagrams
  • Will participate in training, craft skill improvements and department safety topics
  • Follow all safety precautions while performing tasks at all times and perform fire response duties
  • Clean work areas after maintenance is performed and ensure an organized and efficient work area is presented
  • Report EH&S concerns including recordable incidents, near misses, first aid, environmental, and property damage
  • Ensure adherence to waste management and recycling responsibilities
  • Participate in incident & near miss investigations to determine root cause and corrective actions
  • Participate in the development, understanding and review of all position JSAs
  • Conduct required SMAT Audits in accordance with plant goals and objectives

Required Qualifications

KNOWLEDGE & COMPETENCIES (SKILLS & ABILITIES):

High School Diploma or equivalent is required.  Associate’s degree in electrical/electronic maintenance is preferred. Two (2) or more years of experience as an industrial electrician in a manufacturing environment.  Proficient in the use of hand and power tools, measuring devices, and test equipment. Must have excellent computer skills.

PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:  Able to work an average of 40 hours per week, speak clearly so others understand, accept criticism, deal calmly and effectively, communicate with all levels of customers, whether internal or external, sensitivity to other’s needs, and maintain a positive demeanor.  While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; use hands to handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; and reach with hands and arms. The employee frequently is required to walk.  The employee is occasionally required to stand, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.  The employee is occasionally required to sit and talk and hear. Other physical requirements include, ability to regularly lift and/or move up to 50#’s  without assistance, ability to work from various squatting, kneeling or bending positions, ability to climb ladders up to 60 feet and the ability to work with arms above head.

 

ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:  Manufacturing plant is not temperature controlled; dust, fumes, and high noise areas are present inside plant areas.  Manufacturing processes involve granules, sand, fiberglass, asphalt coating, crushed rock, and polypropylene.  Noise levels exceed 80 dB in some areas of the site. Moving equipment such as fork lifts, buggies, genie booms and industrial sweepers travel throughout the facility, sometimes in congested areas.
