This North American Manager of Operational Excellence provides hands-on support and direction to the Life Sciences Plant Managers to achieve excellence in manufacturing capability, process and technical know-how, advances in automation, quality and service improvements, and safe operations.  The incumbent will be a subject matter expert in accepted practices of lean manufacturing, policy deployment / single agenda and specifically lead-time reduction. They will provide training and practical support to all NA plants with specific leadership on the planning and implementation of automation.  

The incumbent reports directly to Director of operations, NA and is responsible for overall WCM operational strategy and recommending required assistance and coordination of activities for all Life Sciences manufacturing sites in North America.

Key Areas of Focus:

• WCM Leadership - driving Change Management to promote a culture and mindset of operational excellence and continuous improvement through WCM across our operations. Integrate WCM Manufacturing tools to consistently improve process yields, reduce waste and drive productivity.

• Provide manufacturing expertise to support continuous improvements in the plants. Establish a culture of accountability and facilitate effective goal deployment that aligns with business goals. Use Operational Metrics to ensure early identification of issues to allow timely corrective actions. Conduct plant audits which will further lead to development and oversight and accountability of desired improvement plans. Conduct Earned-hours analysis and lead time reduction plans in partnerships with Plant Managers and Supply Chain.

• Coach, Mentor and Develop Operations team at all levels to support them through the adoption of WCM principles and practices and to create a pipeline of future leadership for the organization.

• Collaborating with BU leadership to ensure effective execution of improvement projects while reviewing P&L scope, resources needs and business objectives. Participate in and contribute to major industrial projects, both investments and restructuring.

• Collaborate with Life Sciences Operations Excellence team to share best practice, world-class advancement and step-change initiatives. Monitor threats from competitors’ advancement in technology, manufacturing, and product offerings.

 

 


Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree – Engineering, Material Science or Related Area; Required.

Master’s Degree – Business; Preferred.

10+ years of experience:  This position requires a robust manufacturing and operational leadership background, gained within manufacturing and a High Performance Materials environment.

The incumbent brings a passion for quality and continuous improvement to the position. Demonstrates familiarity with the tools of continuous improvement and lean manufacturing as well as problem solving (process mapping, root cause analysis, statistical process control, etc.)

The incumbent must have the ability to work independently with little direction and effectively deal with all levels of the organization from the CEO to the shop floor. Must be able to outline broad issues, develop plans, and communicate and persuade acceptance of WCM and Continuous Improvement plans.

The incumbent must have proven experience developing strong working relationships within the business both up and down in order to achieve results as the incumbent’s authority derives from experience and expertise versus positional authority.  

Must be willing to travel, upwards of 50% to key locations throughout Midwest, East Coast and Southeastern portion of the United States.
