Position Description

Job Summary

Reporting to the Technical Manager, the Regional Process Champion is responsible for implementing new technologies that support production and quality excellence for the Canadian gypsum wallboard plants.  The Process Champion will build and maintain strong relationships with these wallboard plants to improve communication and support the plants with hands on expertise when required. He or she will work with R&D, Purchasing and other Departments in the company on technical initiatives to ensure that work is conducted and documented in a manner that can be sustained.

The successful candidate will ensure that all projects undertaken by the plants support CertainTeed’s values, strategic plan and policy deployment (PoDe) priorities.

The Regional Process Champion will support the plants’ cost reduction initiatives (optimization, trials, new product development) and drive change to improve the performance at the plants. The regional Process champion will develop and support the long range plan process improvements roadmaps for each site. 

Responsibilities:

  • Identify, plan, prioritize and execute cost savings opportunities at the Canada gypsum manufacturing sites (Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver, Calgary and Winnipeg)
  • Conduct technical training to plant staff, hourly and new most important to employees with a Technical, Process or Quality function
  • Work effectively with R&D, Purchasing and Supply Chain to help source and trial new or improved raw materials, including gypsum liners on both paper-faced and glass faced products
  • Compile and Benchmark best practices so that information can be shared easily between the plants
  • Work with GPI to evaluate technologies and systems that improve plants’ technical capabilities
  • Provide technical support when needed by Finance or other plant or corporate functions
  • Provide timely Technical Assistance to plants to resolve Production and Quality issues by using good troubleshooting principles and WCM methodology
  • Utilize WCM Tools to help plants resolve their technical issues, provide support for the plant Quality and Process control pillars
  • Assist with the implementation of capital projects relating to productivity, cost, or quality improvement
  • Support the Quality Group’s Control Plan by reviewing and editing as needed. This includes all control plants currently being used at the plants
  • Use benchmark and develop network between the gypsum sites technical team and central team to identify improvements and opportunities early 
  • Develop and keep an updated process roadmaps for the 5 Canadian gypsum board sites to support the long range pan process with the support of the Technical manager

Required Qualifications

Bachelor degree in a chemical or engineering discipline

Minimum of 3 years of gypsum related experience within Technical, R&D or manufacturing is required. 

The ability to take a strong leadership and motivational role of Technical Services personnel utilizing demonstrated interpersonal, planning, oral and written communication skills, as well as project management skills.
