Job Summary:

The position will provide support to Engineering programs at the Granville location, within the defined World Class Manufacturing (WCM) framework, in a manner consistent with the Principles of Conduct and Action of Saint-Gobain.

Is responsible for ensuring the efficient operation of equipment used within the Granville site for manufacturing its lines of high value PVC & Urethane foams.  The position ensures rapid pace of implementation without compromising the quality of standards.

The role supports the design and implementation of manufacturing processes and equipment for web processing using wet coating and lamination, web handling equipment and practices, extrusions and mixing technology.  This support will include compliance with all ISO standards (9001, 14001, 45001 & pending IATF 16949) within the Granville Site.

Responsibility for operational excellence via efficient plant design and function. Ensures continuous improvement in process, cost, quality and production utilizing lean and Six Sigma tools. Supports various engineering projects and resolves processing issues.

Will rely on experience and judgment to plan and support goals utilizing creativity as well as excellent diagnostic and problem solving skills.

Essential Functions:

  • Manages multiple projects aimed at process improvement, including capital investments, process optimizations, new product introduction, corrective actions, safety improvements, and waste reduction associated with production activities Responsible for leading and developing project team members.
  • Ability to effectively define problems through data analysis, propose workable solutions to minimize defects and waste. The ability to define and work on data driven six sigma type projects. Determine statistical process capabilities and implement process control systems designed to improve consistency, product yield, quality, and throughput rates.
  • Must be able to identify opportunities for cost reduction, increased efficiency, seek and implement innovative methods to optimize process throughput and reduce costs.  Chart progress of opportunities within the methodology of the World Class Manufacturing plan, recommending countermeasures to overcome adverse variances. Provide follow up to such recommendations.
  • Working with R&D and manufacturing teams, management of new product industrialization and control procedures, as well as ensuring work is completed in the required time frame and budget requirements.
  • Compiles technical data and other key process information to determine equipment/process specifications and establish baselines.  Develop and align BOMs & Routings to be accurate and in a consistent format.
  • Implementation of annual new capital investment program for justification of new equipment. Benchmarks industry technologies and proposes plans to remain up to date. Ensures capital project completion from justification through selection, installation and personnel training with project management support as needed.


  • Ability to effectively handle multiple activities simultaneously and successfully function in a cross functional manufacturing environment.
  • Competent in web processing and thin film liquid coating and laminating including coating methodologies such as gravure, slot dies, knife over roll and reverse roll coating. This includes finishing through drying ovens as well as tension controls that will produce consistently good product rolls.
  • Manage scope and magnitude of project assignments from a single component to new product or equipment introduction.
  • Develop, maintain and audit systems and procedures. Coordinate product trials of new product designs. Write trial plans; coordinate machine availability as needed for trials. Communicate trial plans with all parties involved.
  • Daily communications with manufacturing to ensure new equipment and product designs are not hindering manufacturing process.
  • Ability to implement Statistical Process Control systems in a continuous manufacturing environment.
  • Assist with the training and development of junior level Engineers.

Required Qualifications


    • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Chemical discipline preferred- Required 
    • Master's Degree- Preferred

    Work Experience:

    • 5+ years of manufacturing experience, of which 4+ years experience in wet processing/web coating industry- Required
    • Demonstrated ability to follow a stage gate or similar project management philosophy and a proven record of successfully leading various projects- Required
    • Ability to communicate with all levels of the business and shown the ability to build and lead successful teams- Required 
    • Working knowledge of ISO methodology- Preferred
    • Working knowledge of TQM/Lean/Six Sigma techniques in a manufacturing environment- Preferred
    • Experience utilizing SPC data sets to create control charts, CPK adjustments, and improvement projects within manufacturing environment- Preferred
    • Assited with mentoring and training of entry level personnel- Preferred
