Job Summary

Job Purpose


The incumbent is a member of the Operations Team responsible for managing the day to day supervision of the site utilities, and the hourly utility Team. He/she is also responsible for the restart project of all Utility machines of the site (15M$ asset). In her/his first assignment (restart project), the incumbent will report directly to the Plant Restart project manager. After the plant restart, the direct reporting line will be to the Engineering & Maintenance manager.


This position has complete Maintenance/equipment responsibility for the utilities of ADFORS Dublin, GA facility of Saint-Gobain. The Incumbent works within a framework of defined “World Class Manufacturing - WCM” practices and precedents and must have the ability to prioritize high level workload, work to satisfy the priority needs of the company by organizing work, applying multi-functional skills, and following tasks through to completion.  The incumbent’s role focuses heavily on machine maintenance through TPM and Prediction of failures. The ability to recognize when the machine is maintained insufficiently or not performing as expected and the communication of all TPM system failures to Supervision is critical.


The incumbent leads the WCM in his area, focussed on people safety, machines reliability and environmental impacts. This position will focus 1st on repairing and restarting all the utilities, involving the original machine suppliers whenever necessary. Once the machines are restarted, the focus will turn to operational excellences, insuring the safety for all the operators involved in these areas, optimizing the energy & water consumption while setting the efficient maintenance methodologies: efficient reactive maintenance, secure Preventive maintenance plan and Predictive maintenance wherever possible.


Principle End Results


  • The first target, which is also a good path to learn more about the machines, is to prepare all the Utility machines restart by Q3-2023. All these machines are 2 to 3 years old. They will require tests and potentially parts changes and modifications.  


  • Develop and implement TPM and AM schedules on all the utility perimeters.   Develop Work Instructions explaining the needed maintenance to be done on the machine.   Audit, track progress and post TPM measures and results.  Carry out Clean to Inspect events (Tender, Lubricate and Care).


  • Design and initiate a Training program (Maintenance) to effectively train associates and maintain current/apt communication with them.


  • Leader in WCM activities in the utility perimeter, such as the Safety, Reliability and Environmental Pillars. Achieve green belt certification(s) as needed. Run and manage Kaizen activities to improve and eliminate losses/non-value added activities. Actively participate and contribute to the WCM Master Loss Analysis.    Manage other related project/process engineer projects as assigned.


  • Facilitate 5S activities for all departments with respective Supervisors. Conduct and design 5S Audits in coordination with the WCM Manager and track progress. Design and initiate a 5S training program to effectively train associates and maintain current and continued communication.


  • Develop and assign goals and objectives that coincide with the established department goals, holding subordinates accountable for their performance.  The incumbent must be a mentor capable of generating enthusiasm from direct reports.  The various groups must be encouraged to seek cost-effective design alternatives and processes.


  • Manage and sustain a parts inventory program for the Utility machines.  Assure effective and optimized cost for all associated parts, service and rental costs for the plant.


  • Communicate and work with vendors and the purchasing department on cost optimization; assure compliance with all Saint Gobain corporate purchasing procedures. Design a Utility Maintenance spending budget annually with the operations team; achieve and exceed target expectations. Attend Saint Gobain corporate procurement meetings to understand the Company policies on maintenance supplies. Actively participate in the Capital Project, Safety and Environmental Programs.


  • Work closely and assist the Production and Engineering departments.   As machine improvements are made, actively participate and assist in developing the appropriate solutions


  • Provides leadership in assuring employee physical wellbeing and safety by the development, promotion and enforcement of an uncompromising safety attitude in both supervision and production employees and good safety practices measured by a safety record that exceeds and leads the industry.


  • Dedicated to serve on committee, i.e. WCM, plant safety, continuous improvement, Live Well and Recognition programs.  Understands Lean Manufacturing Principles (Kaizen, 5S, Pilot Projects) and participates, supports and is familiar with Continuous Improvements methodology as it relates to WCM initiatives.


  • Through effective direction, counselling and training, develop and maintain an effective organization through selection, development, compensation, and motivation of all employees. Develop managerial, supervisory and other talents necessary to achieve short and log-range objectives.

Required Qualifications

The incumbent is required to have a BS degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or related area, but a MS or MBA degree is preferred. The candidate will have 3+ years of work-related experience in a manufacturing environment.


The incumbent has frequent contact with vendors and service technicians for the purpose of purchasing new equipment, supplies or maintenance on present equipment.   When there are quality problems in the field, the incumbent may deal with salespeople/ customer service, product engineers and/or customers. May also have contact with manufacturing engineers, marketing industrial engineers, finance, facilities services, and quality assurance because of specification or process changes or customer complaints/inquiries. The Purchasing Department is also frequently contacted by the incumbent and/or his/her subordinates for the purpose of ordering supplies, materials and equipment or parts.
