Tool Maker Lead

Position Description

Job Summary

Fabricate or machine tooling and/or parts necessary for processing equipment or tools required for quality production. Assign and direct work of toolmakers.

 

  • Exhibit safety awareness and safe work practices.

  • Fabricate or machine parts for equipment or tools according to work requests, drawings or as directed by manager.

  • Determine appropriate machining sequences without direction.

  • Repair or refurbish tooling as required.

  • Maintain work schedule

  • Assign and direct work of toolmakers.

  • Troubleshoot equipment to restore operation or repair as necessary.

  • Maintain inventory of materials and supplies and order required items to ensure continuous operation of department.

  • Clean and maintain machinery, tools, and work areas as scheduled or as needed.

  • Maintain necessary records as required by SOPs and work instructions.’

  • Monitor quality of machined part through first article, in process, final inspections, and trials

  • Communicate and cooperate with fellow employees to maintain quality, operational efficiency, and safety.

  • Report non-conformance condition (product or process) to supervisor as required.

  • Communicate with design and manufacturing engineers to resolve issues

  • Participate in self-development and training of others.

  • Participate in advancing capabilities of process and equipment

  • Ensure final tooling corrections are documented.

  • Perform other related duties as required or as directed by manager.

  • Understand all environmental policies and impact of job activities in accordance with pertinent Quality Certifications and standards.


Required Qualifications

 

  • Ability to review and understand engineering drawings, customer provided part drawings, manuals specifications or sample parts to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished parts, sequence of operations and set up requirements

  • Experience with Master Cam

  • Ability to work primarily unsupervised

  • Must be flexible and willing to work overtime and weekends as necessary

  • Ability to stand, climb, bend, kneel and stoop to perform repairs of tooling and other die service equipment for most of the assigned shift in tool room, depending on assignments 

  • Solid experience in operations a variety of manual and some CNC controlled machinery to produce precision parts and components to exact specifications
