R&D Technician
Position Description
Job Summary
We are looking for an independent, motivated individual to join our R&D team! The R&D Technician will assist the R&D group in carrying out projects by adapting and applying engineering techniques; conducting R&D trials, inspections and documentation; carrying out hardware modification, upgrades and maintenance; and preparing reports. Assignments may focus on process, equipment, materials, and/or methods of development and improvement.
This is a part-time position (approximately 15-20 hours/week) with the possibility of leading to full-time employment. The work hours are flexible, to accommodate your schedule.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Assist in the development of single crystal growth processes, including carrying out growth trials and reporting on overall developments.
- Recommend solutions to engineering problems by collecting and analyzing information; preparing drawings, schematics and diagrams; providing support for characterizing material and components; resolving design integration issues; developing specifications and safety standards; performing installations.
- Prepare engineering reports and presentations by collecting, analyzing and summarizing data and trends in R&D projects.

- Strong writing and documentation skills
- Strong interpersonal skills for interfacing with team members
- Ability to learn new skills and assume new responsibilities
- Strong time management and ability to prioritize
- Mechanical aptitude, good ‘hands-on’ capabilities and experience
- High level of organization with the ability to multi-task several test related efforts/projects concurrently
PRACTICAL/TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE
- Principles and practices of engineering
- Knowledge of MS Office Suite, Excel and Word in particular
- Use of 3D CAD software (Solidworks, CREO, Inventor or other) is a plus
