Job Summary

• The Super Abrasives Division is seeking a Technical Manager for its global electronic market at the Saint-Gobain Worcester (Massachusetts) plant location. As a technical product and application expert, the qualified candidate must be able to bring technical solutions to customer challenges which will generate sales and increase market share as well as provide technical service and support to customers, distributors, product management, marketing, sales, R&D and affiliates. The candidate will be responsible for customizing existing products to match customers’ application and work with the Manufacturing Plants and R&D to insure quality and consistency of the products. Finally, the candidate will proactively explore market opportunities to gain additional business. It is essential that the incumbent work with minimal supervision, be competent in planning and organizing work activities, and be highly motivated to overcome problems as they arise. A high degree of self-discipline, self-motivation, and enthusiasm is critical to this role.

   

  RESPONSIBILITIES:

  In this position the incumbent will be responsible for:

• Working with Product Engineering, Application Engineering, Sales, Marketing and Affiliates to strategize major markets and customer base for sales growth initiatives.
• Identifying the technical and commercial needs of this customer base.
• Creating new products, and manufacturing processes and measurement techniques to meet the technical needs. 
• Designing new marketing material and product information media to sell new and existing products. 
• Running tests at customer facilities and offering technical suggestions to customers as needed.  In addition to application knowledge, the incumbent must quickly gain an expertise of the customers’ manufacturing processes and the grinding machines that create these products. 

Participating on cross-functional projects with R&D and Manufacturing in Worcester, MA that will lead to product improvement, new product introduction and product rationalization.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelors Degree in Engineering or equivalent experience is desirable with a minimum of 5 years’ proven experience in industrial sales
• Strong technical background with an emphasis in mechanical engineering
• Thorough knowledge of manufacturing processes, product and process capability, strong analytical and problem solving skills
• Must have a good understanding of grinding, knowledge of slicing, dicing and edge grinding is a plus
• Approximately 50% of traveling, locally and overseas
• Strong team player and creative thinking skills
• Ability and desire to self-learn and pick up emerging technologies
• Demonstrated ability to give and receive constructive feedback
• Ability to interact across a broad range of levels, cultures, expertise, and geographic regions is required.
