The Performance Ceramics and Refractories (PCR) team at SGR north America is searching for a Research Technician. PCR creates and sells ceramics for industrial and defense applications including hard ceramic armor, kiln furniture, heat exchangers, and impact resistant tiles for the mining industry. The Research Technician performs experiments involving ceramic processing and application testing of ceramic materials. This involves lab work, data acquisition, and/or product development activities with minimal supervision. He/she works with engineers and customers in solving problems related to ceramic processing or the performance of ceramic materials in PCRs market applications. In addition, this position may also perform specialized technical functions involving testing, analyzing, improving, installing, operating equipment and products for assigned areas.
Supports engineers and scientists in R&D team with their projects.
Conducts hands-on experimental work.
Executes and/or supports commercial and manufacturing support requests.
Manages and documents projects and tasks effectively with supervision.
Plays leading role in lab management: safety aspects, equipment maintenance, 5S, lab audit preparation and action follow-up, lab postings, regular equipment checks etc.
Demonstrates open and collaborative approach in all areas of responsibility.
- High School diploma or GED (demonstrated equivalent) with 1-5 years of experience
Work experience with various equipment for ceramic processing and characterization including electric furnaces, ball mills, attrition mills, scales, hydraulic presses, etc. is desirable.
