Saint-Gobain’s North American R&D center is looking for driven, talented, and energetic entry level researchers to join our current team in conducting hands-on laboratory experiments for key development programs. The responsibilities include:

  • Provide multidimensional support to Research activities using expertise in materials analysis/characterization
  • Problem solving and leading project work as a part of a cross-functional team, as well as leading R&D projects
  • Development of materials characterization competencies in the laboratory
  • Perform classical and instrumental chemical analyses and physical measurements of various materials adhering to established SOPs
  • Record /analyze data and provide necessary visual observations using accepted laboratory protocols and methods and document accomplishments in clear and coherent technical reports and presentations
  • Method development / optimization for materials characterization
  • Maintenance and basic troubleshooting of laboratory equipment.
  • General laboratory housekeeping

COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:

  • Expertise in at least two of the following areas: Chemical analysis, elemental analysis, chromatography, analytical spectroscopy, mass spectrometry, analytical method development
  • Solid hands-on knowledge of at least three of the following analytical techniques: HPLC-ESI-MS, IC, ICP-OES, GC-MS, combustion analysis, titration, sample preparation for chemical analysis (acid digestion, fusion, extraction, derivatization)
  • Familiarity with at least four additional areas/instrumental analysis techniques/software from the list above plus: XRD, SEM, optical microscopy, particle size analysis, surface area measurements, mercury porosimetry, NMR, Raman spectroscopy, FTIR, UV-Visible spectroscopy, electrochemical analysis, instrumental electronics, microwave digestion, LIMS, MiniTab
  • Ability to effectively communicate observations, results of experiments, and test details both verbally and written  

Required Qualifications

  • B.S. Degree in Chemistry, Physics or related discipline, Analytical Chemistry specialization with 3 years of experience in a chemistry environment, or an M.S. Degree 
  • Proven hands on experience in general/analytical  chemistry laboratory and laboratory equipment is required as well as skills in chemical analysis / materials characterization
