Inspector/Conversion Operator - 3rd shift

Job Summary

**NOTE: The permanent work schedule/shift for this position is Sunday-Thursday from 11:00pm to 7:00am**

We are looking for an individual who desires a 3rd shift schedule, is dependable, quality conscience and wants to excel at his/her job.

JOB SUMMARY:

Our Inspector/Conversion Operator is responsible for ensuring our manufactured, coated fabric and/or film products meet quality specifications as required by our customers during and at the end of our manufacturing processes.  Responsible for the overall visual quality of the manufactured product.  Performs and operates job functions with safety, quality and efficiency in mind and in accordance with specific procedure and operational parameters.  Must have excellent attention to detail in regards to visual aspects of the material being inspected. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Demonstrate safety awareness and safe work practices:

  • Comply with Saint-Gobain safety rules, policies and procedures
  • Follow internal environmental safety requirements for handling various raw/finished product/material in work area, as required
  • Ensure personal protective safety equipment is worn and is in good repair, as required
  • Ensure equipment and machinery are in correct and safe working order
  • Safely operate powered and non-powered equipment and tools used in job functions

Follows process quality documents (PQD’s), work orders, inspection/process sheets, drawings, diagrams, procedures and/or other instructional documentation to:

  • Perform machine set-up and take down on inspection/slitting machines for all products
    • Collect material from WIP area and use material handling equipment to maneuver to workstation
    • Properly thread leader/material into inspection machine and adjust tension and blades appropriately
  • Reads and interprets specifications including shop packets, sales orders and PQD’s
  • Visually examine manufactured material or product for defects per PQD’s 
  • Verify specified dimensions of material required on sales orders
  • Properly identify product defects/flaws to be able to take viable lead and/or tail QC samples
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot to resolve process problems
    • Use edge wheels on light films
    • Align film or laminate when telescoped
    • Use tension controls - rolls must be tight and straight to meet customer’s needs 
  • Reject and segregate non-conforming materials from conforming materials
  • Route non-conforming materials to Inspection Lead and conforming materials to shipping and or inventory
  • Locate and check for sales order shipment
  • Identify, prepare and maintain required inspection reports, scrap reports, and perform computer transactions related to materials with a high degree of legibility, accuracy, neatness and organization either manually or via QAD system
  • Accurately complete daily inspection log(s) and account for all material(s)
  • Ability to understand the quality requirements of product(s) worked on within department
  • Collaborate with team and production areas to resolve any identified operation issues
  • Collaborate as a team member in assisting and training other co-workers, as needed
  • Maintain 5S and cleanliness of work area
  • Participate in WCM and safety activities
  • Any other related duties, goals and/or activities as assigned

 


Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 1 + years quality inspection within a manufacturing environment experience
  • Intermediate to advance mathematical abilities, to include decimals, percentage and specification requirements
  • Intermediate reading, comprehension, communication, and writing reading skills
  • Ability to read a tape measure within 1/16 of an inch
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Basic computer skills
  • Intermediate critical thinking, troubleshooting techniques, and problem-solving abilities
  • Dependability and thoroughness
  • Ability to read process sheets, instructions, quality and ISO documents to ensure product quality requirements are met
  • Basic understanding of equipment operation to include, electrical, pneumatic and mechanical components operating simultaneously
  • Strong adherence to company policies and procedures to include safety, environmental, health, quality, and operational
  • Willing and able to cross-train in other areas according to business needs
  • Ability to be flexible in the work environment by assisting and/or performing other tasks as directed/assigned by lead, supervisor, and/or other levels of management
  • Ability to follow process sheets and work instructions and communicate issues related to instructions to supervision

Work Environment:

  • Production environment with regular exposure to noise and dust
  • May be exposed to cold temperatures and/or extreme heat at times

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to climb a ladder, be comfortable at heights, operate equipment that is in constant motion, use of both hands at working height and periodic use above headAbility to lift/move a minimum of 50 pounds repeatedly

  • Ability to work overtime as needed
  • Ability to work in confined spaces as needed
