Position Description

Job Summary

GENERAL FUNCTION

Reporting to the Director, Solar Business, the Solar Sales and Application Specialist is responsible for providing technical and sales support for CertainTeed’s solar PV products.  The individual will be an expert on solar products themselves as well as the installation and design of all of CertainTeed’s solar systems.  This person will have an understanding of all solar codes/compliance in relation to solar system design and installation, provide on-site technical support to CertainTeed’s network of installers, and help with solar site analysis.  The individual will also develop and execute training programs for CertainTeed solar products and contractor credentialing.  He/she will actively work with other team leaders to cultivate a culture of safety, mutual respect, creativity, organized work place, and environmental responsibility at the CertainTeed HQ in Malvern.

Application Training and Support:

  • Provide technical expertise on CertainTeed’s solar products, including the design and installation of all solar products and systems including standard rack/panel and CertainTeed’s Apollo solar roofing solution 

  • Develop and deliver training programs for product application and design for all solar products

  • Support customers in the field with installation

  • Provide input on field tests, training and feedback gained from applicators and distributors to solar sales, marketing, manufacturing and R&D

  • Maintain an understanding of solar product and system functionality and failure modes in order to troubleshoot system issues and advise on warranty claims. 

  • Provide guidance to roofing R&D internal Product Compliance group regarding investments of time and money to maintain current code compliance and test new products and systems. 

Sales: 

  • Generate new revenue and profits for CertainTeed’s solar business by working with new and existing CertainTeed customers to promote and increase solar product sales.  Customers include distributors, architects, builders and roofing/solar installers. 

  • Must be able to promote the features and benefits of the product lines appropriate to the audience that is being addressed or trained.

  • Support the existing sales team as well as distribution and contractor customers with project designs and estimates

  • Periodically attend and help promote CertainTeed’s solar products and business at trade shows


Required Qualifications

  • The ideal candidate has a BS in Science, Engineering, Marketing or equivalent degree with a minimum of 5 years of work experience preferably in technical sales or product application roles.

  • The candidate should have a fundamental understanding of solar products, their functionality and how they interact to form a system. 

  • Understanding of solar equipment manufacturing, including raw materials and processes is a plus.  Significant solar background and/or work experience is important. 

  • NABCEP certification preferred.

  • Ability to effectively communicate with a diverse customer base.  

  • Capability to understanding highly technical solar products

  • Ability to analyze, summarize and effectively present data.

  • Organization and ability to keep a wide variety of work well documented.

  • Travel requirement ~50% or more.
